The CW Picks Up Three Dramas

The CW has picked up Sarah Michelle Gellar’s “The Ringer”, Rachel Bilson’s “Hart of Dixie” and Kevin Williamson’s "Secret Circle" for its upcoming 2011-12 season.

According to various reports, Sarah Michelle Gellar's thriller series has already been ordered for a full season, after being previously turned down by CBS. The show follows the story of a woman (Gellar), who is on the run from the mob and hides out by assuming the identity of her twin sister. It also features Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonell and Kristoffer Polaha.

"The Secret Circle" focuses on a young girl (Britt Robertson) who discovers that she is part of a coven of witches, and is based on the book series by “Vampire Diaries” author L.J. Smith. It also stars Thomas Dekker and Gale Harold.

Finally, “Hart of Dixie”, developed by “Gossip Girl” creator Josh Schwartz, centres on a New York City doctor (Rachel Bilson) who gets a culture shock when she inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town.

The CW is scheduled to hold its upfront presentation on Thursday in New York.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's "The Ringer" Heading To CW

Deadline reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar's pilot "Ringer" will in fact be picked up for the fall. The series was originally developed by CBS, but in a surprising twist, it is now going to the network's sibling, The CW.

The show
centers on Bridget, a troubled young woman on the run from the mob who hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, Siobhan, until she learns that her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well.

This marks the return of SMG to the network that replaced the WB and UPN, the two networks which aired her hit seriesBuffy the Vampire Slayer”. It also gives CW a major star that has huge following in the network's 18-34 demographic.

With “The Ringer” already picked up and “The Secret Circle” pending to be ordered, it is unclear whether there is going to be enough space for other shows like “Hart of Dixie” or “Awakening”. As for the bubble shows, “Nikita” and “One Tree Hill” are expected to return, “Hellcats” is less certain though still in contention.

Britt Robertson Cast In "The Secret Circle"

Better known for playing Lux in another CW show, it has been reported that "Life Unexpected's" Britt Robertson has been cast in the new project which is based on a series of  books by "Vampire Diaries" author L.J. Smith.

The show centers on a young woman, Cassie, who moves to a new town and soon learns she is part of a secret coven of witches. If that wasn't enough pressure for a teenage girl, she is also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil. It  hasn't been announced who Robertson will play, but we're betting it's the female lead of the show, Cassie, or the leader of the coven Diana.

The script for the pilot, written by Andrew Miller and Kevin Williamson, will be directed by Liz Friedlander, who has directed "TVD" among other CW shows.

Rachel Bilson Going To The CW

"The O.C." alum Rachel Bilson is headed back to TV in another Josh Schwartz project, titled "Hart of Dixie". Bilson would play a young doctor who leaves her job in New York City to take over a medical practice in a quirky Southern town.

Bilson has previously appeared on Schwartz’s NBC dramedy "Chuck" as well as CBS’ "How I Met Your Mother", where she played a love interest for Ted Mosby.

More Magic Coming To The CW

The CW has picked up a pilot that re-teams Kevin Williamson and Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith in a supernatural drama.

The "Secret Circle" series follows 16-year-old Cassie, who moves from California to live with her mom in New Salem and falls in love with a mysterious boy named Adam. But, when she enrolls in high school there, she realizes that she, he and all the other elite students at the school are witches. She befriends their leader, Diana, but soon discovers that Adam and Diana are dating, which leads to a whole bunch of complicated drama.

Williamson is co-executive-producing and co-writing the project with Andrew Miller. Elizabeth Craft, Sarah Fain, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also serve as executive producers.
