The CW Picks Up Three Dramas

The CW has picked up Sarah Michelle Gellar’s “The Ringer”, Rachel Bilson’s “Hart of Dixie” and Kevin Williamson’s "Secret Circle" for its upcoming 2011-12 season.

According to various reports, Sarah Michelle Gellar's thriller series has already been ordered for a full season, after being previously turned down by CBS. The show follows the story of a woman (Gellar), who is on the run from the mob and hides out by assuming the identity of her twin sister. It also features Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonell and Kristoffer Polaha.

"The Secret Circle" focuses on a young girl (Britt Robertson) who discovers that she is part of a coven of witches, and is based on the book series by “Vampire Diaries” author L.J. Smith. It also stars Thomas Dekker and Gale Harold.

Finally, “Hart of Dixie”, developed by “Gossip Girl” creator Josh Schwartz, centres on a New York City doctor (Rachel Bilson) who gets a culture shock when she inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town.

The CW is scheduled to hold its upfront presentation on Thursday in New York.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's "The Ringer" Heading To CW

Deadline reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar's pilot "Ringer" will in fact be picked up for the fall. The series was originally developed by CBS, but in a surprising twist, it is now going to the network's sibling, The CW.

The show
centers on Bridget, a troubled young woman on the run from the mob who hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, Siobhan, until she learns that her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well.

This marks the return of SMG to the network that replaced the WB and UPN, the two networks which aired her hit seriesBuffy the Vampire Slayer”. It also gives CW a major star that has huge following in the network's 18-34 demographic.

With “The Ringer” already picked up and “The Secret Circle” pending to be ordered, it is unclear whether there is going to be enough space for other shows like “Hart of Dixie” or “Awakening”. As for the bubble shows, “Nikita” and “One Tree Hill” are expected to return, “Hellcats” is less certain though still in contention.

Vanessa Ferlito And Riley Smith Join The CW's "Cooper & Stone"

Vanessa Ferlito has landed the role of Stone in The CW’s pilot “Cooper & Stone”. The series focuses on two young female detectives who are as comfortable solving cases as they are discussing fashion and pop culture. Ferlito will join Alexandra Breckenridge, who has already been cast as Cooper. The pilot is currently being filmed in Chicago.

According to Deadline, Riley Smith has also been cast in the pilot. Smith has signed up to play a vice detective who is transferred to Cooper and Stone’s precinct after his cover is compromised. His character is thought to have known Stone at the police academy and the duo have a difficult relationship, although there are suggestions that there could be sexual tension between the pair. Smith has appeared in shows like “Freaks And Geeks” and “Joan Of Arcadia”.
